Bon Voyage Paper Boats

Boats getting ready to sail off to the party!

Yesterday it was the Bon Voyage Party for my farther in law (due to his sailing trip across the Atlantic) and I wanted to decorate the table suitable for the upcoming sailing trip. Some time ago my farther in law gave me some old charts. I had a feeling that they would be useful and certainly they did. I made some small sailing boats for the table. One for each place, placed on a napkin. As we BBQ quite a lot all year round, I had plenty of wooden sticks I could use as masts, thin wire string and some ribbon will always be found in my house. So I was now ready to start my little project. What good fun it was.

Instructions how to build the paper boats:

  1. Cut the charts out in A4 & A5 sizes (the small sizes I used for the children’s places);
  2. Fold the paper into paper boats (I used the simple folding technique we used as children when we made boats out of old newspapers);
  3. Cut the wooden sticks into the hight you would like the mast to be and simply stick it through the boat;
  4. Cut some small pieces of ribbon, fold it double and stick it on the mast/ wooden stick (it can be useful to use a thick needle to help making the holes);
  5. Cut some string in the appropriate size to make the lines for the boat. Use a needle to punch the way through the boat, tie it around the top of the mast and attached on the other side. Finish each end with a big knot;
  6. The boat is ready to sail off.

Wrapping

5 min to prepare, 5 min to make

I needed a quick idea for wrapping a present and thought I could use something I always would be able to find in the house……a newspaper. Honestly it took me the most time to get the sewing machine out, the actual creation of the paper purse took about 10 minutes from idea to finished product. I loved making it, it was so easy, quick and very cheap.

It makes the perfect wrapping and I will definitely use this for some oaf my Christmas presents this year. I am sure my friends will love it.

Christmas biscuits

It’s Sunday afternoon, the weather has slightly changed to become a little bit cooler, bonfire night’s gone and Christmas is not far away so time to start getting prepared for this festive event. I must say I LOVE Christmas. It has always been my favourite time of the year. The only thing I really miss being in Guernsey for Christmas is the lack of snow (no hope for a White Christmas here) and that it never really get to minus degrees.

I am sponsoring my farther in laws Atlantic crossing trip in a weeks time with my biscuits. He is part of a crew of 5 sailing cross the Atlantic and as they will not get to St Lucia before 16 December I thought that I would provide them with my favourite Christmas biscuit called Brunkager. This is not only my favourite biscuit but also my Guernsey family’s favourite biscuit so when I start baking this biscuit the lovely sweet smell of cinnamon seems to attract them all and the demand for the biscuit increases.
